Wow, if I‘ve complained
before about life here being go-go-go, it’s been nothing compared to these last
few weeks and it just keeps getting crazier. The kids got out of school this
past Friday for the summer and boy, are they ready for the break. Tomorrow
(Wednesday) they all get their grades and they are super anxious to figure out
if they’ve passed their classes. That, of course, affects summer plans for
many, as the kids aren’t allowed to go on vacations if they haven’t passed
their classes; instead they have to retake the classes. Add to that the fact
that family members must ask for the kids to come on vacations (so, of course,
less than half of our kids actually end up going on vacations since many of
them have no family or family that is unsuitable to take care of them) and
nerves are pretty high right now.
In the last couple weeks,
a lot has happened. We planned and executed an outing for all 250 kids and
caregivers to see the play “The Beauty in the Beast” in the National Theatre in
the capital, a generous donation. Wes came and went and Milena arrived as well!
Throw in a trip with Santa Ana to the batey and 23 baptisms this past Sunday
and those are most of the notable events from the last couple weeks. Now
