The Final Countdown

Countdown until departure=23 days!

Well, I've officially started my Dominican Republic blog! I hope this is a great way to keep in touch with family and friends and keep people updated on what's going on in my life during the year of 2012. To make a long story short, I've always known I wanted to do a volunteer year of some sort after college. About a year ago, I started looking into different options and through the experience of a family friend, Eileen Perra, I heard about Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos or Friends of the Orphans as it's called in the United States. The organization had everything I wanted and more, so I applied and got my placement this past October in the communications and sponsorship departments at the Dominican Republic site. For more info, check this out:

So basically, right now I'm in my last three days of college here at Concordia! I am literally just one final paper away from graduation!! AH! And I'm feeling all sorts of things...excitement, nostalgia, apprehension, readiness to get out of the cold and move on with my life... So when people ask if I'm pumped or nervous about the fact that I'm taking off in just over 3 weeks, I answer all of the above. I can't wait to be immersed in a new culture and to be able to speak Spanish all of the time. I can't wait to meet all the kids and my coworkers at NPH as I know they're amazing people. I can't wait to start my job in the communications and sponsorship departments (which I know involves translating...YES!). At the same time, there's a lot about Concordia I'll miss, above all, my awesome roomies. Here's a photo from roomie Christmas this past weekend:
